UEFA European Championship Switzerland

Switzerland Euro 2008 Team History and Overview

Switzerland played their international debut against France in 1905. After more than 30 years of failing to qualify, the Swiss team eventually participated in their first UEFA European Football Championship in 1996. They played once again in Euro 2004, but were eliminated in the first round.

As one of the two host countries for the Euro 2008 event, Switzerland Euro 2008 team automatically plays in the final tournament and is not required to participate in any preliminary qualifier matches. The privilege of many home fixtures causes the Euro 2008 odds to look good for the Swiss team. • They are the only team that has managed to score no goals during a penalty shootout.
  • The Swiss side is the only team to be eliminated from the tournament despite never allowing any goals to be scored against them.
