EM Stadion Wals-Siezenheim or Stadion Salzburg was one of four venues across Austria that hosted the
UEFA Euro 2008 Football Championship
. Wals Siezenheim is a multifunctional stadium with various restaurants and a variety of leisure facilities, but mostly serves as a football pitch. The stadium, formerly named Bullen-Arena, was built in 2003 and officially opened in the same year. The venue is the home stadium for
FC Red Bull Salzburg
, an Austrian football club. The first football match played on the pitch was a fixture between FC Red Bull Salzburg and FC Karnten.
Wals Siezenheim Stadium, currently has a seating capacity of up to 30 000. The sports ground was recently upgraded from its former 18,200 seating capacity to meet UEFA guidelines on football stadium construction, enabling it to serve as a UEFA Euro 2008 stadium. In 2005, an artificial turf was installed on the football pitch, making it unique in the Austrian Bundesliga. The improved venue was opened in 2006 and it is now possible we may see
UEFA Cup matches
held here in the future.
