Euro 2008 Final Review

Spain have won the Euro 2008 football championship. The Spanish achieved their first victory in the tournament since 1964 by putting on an accomplished performance that helped them sink a strong German side.

Spain appeared to have and edge over Germany for much of the match, creating several opportunities on goal during the early stages of the game before Fernando Torres ran around the German defence and chipped the German ‘keeper to score on 33 minutes.

Germany entered their strongest run of play in the second half, cracking the Spanish defence open on several occasions but struggling to convert opportunities into goals. Meanwhile the Spanish came close to scoring a second goal a number of times, only to be thwarted by some superb German defending.

Towards the end of the game tempers flared as the Germans became frustrated by their inability to generate a score. The German forwards pushed forward relentlessly, but to no avail, as the Spanish kept the Germans scoreless and claimed a fine 1-0 victory and the European championship trophy.
