In 1982 they saw success once again when they crushed their traditional opponents, West Germany. In 2006, they defeated France in a penalty shoot-out. This was their second World Cup final which was to be determined by a shoot-out. The first instance occurred in 1974 when Italy lost to Brazil.

In addition to their World Cup success, Italy has also seen victory in a UEFA European Championship. They won Euro 1968 by beating Yugoslavia in the only major international tournament final to be decided by a replay.

The lowest moment for the Italian national side was undoubtedly during the 1966 World Cup, when they unexpectedly lost 1 – 0 to North Korea.

Boasting an incredibly successful history since their debut match in 1910, Italy has also taken home two Central European Cups, an Olympic Gold Medal and two Olympic Bronze Medals. These achievements cause anticipation for the Italy Euro 2008 Team to perform.
